Program Criteria

Dental Hygiene Technology Minimum Admission Criteria

1. Confirmed admission to the University of Cincinnati is required.

2. Biology: One year of high school biology with lab and a grade of C or higher completed within 6 years of this application or a college biology course(s) as indicated below is/are required.

If high school biology grade was a C or higher, but was taken longer than 6 years prior to this application, the student must complete Biology for the Health Professions and Technical Programs I (BIOL1051C) with a grade of C or better.

If high school biology was not taken or if the student earned below a grade of C, the student must complete both the Biology for the Health Professions and Technical Programs I and II (BIOL1051C and BIOL1052C) with grades of C or better.

3. Chemistry: One year of high school chemistry with lab with a grade of C or better completed within 6 years of application or CHEM 1030 (General, Organic, and Biochemistry I Lecture and Lab) with grades of C or better is required. Students may enroll in either CHEM 1030C (General, Organic, and Biochemistry I Combined Lecture and Lab) or CHEM 1030 (General, Organic and Biochemistry I Lecture) and CHEM 1030L (General, Organic, and Biochemistry I Lab).

If high school chemistry grade was a C or better but was taken longer than 6 years prior to application, the student must complete either CHEM 1030C (Gen/Org/Biochemistry I Combined Lecture and Lab) or CHEM 1030 (Gen/Org/Biochemistry I Lecture) and CHEM 1030L (Gen/Org/ Biochemistry I Lab) with grades of C or better.

4. Math: Students may meet the math prerequisite requirement via any one of the following paths (you do not have to complete all three):

Completion of preparatory math course(s) needed for college-level MATH/STAT course.

6. Minimum GPA: Students must meet the requirement of an un-weighted high school GPA of 3.2 or higher OR a 3.0 GPA in college courses with a minimum of 12 credit hours completed.

7. English Proficiency: Students who have not graduated from a U.S. or English speaking high school must complete the TOEFL examination or other exam with the designated score, as listed here.

Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary Minimum Admission Criteria

1. Confirmed admission to the University of Cincinnati is required.

Nursing, RN Technology Minimum Admission Criteria

1. Confirmed admission to the University of Cincinnati is required.

2. Biology: One year of high school biology with lab and a grade of C or higher completed within 6 years of this application or a college biology course(s) as indicated below is required.

College Anatomy & Physiology I (BIOL2001C) completed with a grade of C or better within the 6 years prior to application will also meet this biology requirement.

3. Chemistry: One year of high school chemistry with lab and a grade of C or higher completed within 6 years of this application OR CHEM1030 (General, Organic, and Biochemistry I) and 1030L (Gen/Org Biochemistry Lab) with grades of C or better is required.

If high school Chemistry grade was a C but was taken longer than 6 years prior to application, the student must complete General, Organic, and Biochemistry (CHEM 1030 and CHEM 1030L) with grade of “C” or better.

4. Test into college-level reading, writing, and algebra or statistics (as determined by the placement test)

Physical Therapist Assistant Minimum Admission Criteria

Completion of the following courses by the end of the Fall semester the year you are applying:

A GPA of 2.75 or better must be maintained for all courses, with a minimum of C in science courses. This requirement is also enforced for any credit transferred into the VT program from another college.
A minimum of twenty (20) hours of veterinary-related experience, under the direction of a veterinarian or registered veterinary technician, must be completed. A veterinary experience document which must be signed by the student’s supervisor may be obtained from the academic advisor through a link on the website.

Radiologic Imaging Technology Minimum Admission Criteria

Spatial Reasoning Assessment (brief 10 question survey)

Spatial reasoning assessments evaluate a candidate's ability to understand and manipulate spatial relationships between objects, which is important in dentistry. Anticipate 10-15 minutes to complete this assessment. It must be submitted by the application deadline to be considered.

Applicants are required to visit 2 dental offices for 8 hours (minimum 4 hours each) for the purpose of observing behind-the-scenes operations and the role of the dental hygienist in that office. The Pre-Admission Observation/Work Experience Form must be submitted along with the electronic Dental Hygiene Application.

Veterinary Technology Reflective Essay

A reflective essay must be submitted as a Word document along with the electronic veterinary technology application and must be a minimum of 300 words to a maximum of 900 words. Use Calibri or Times New Roman, size 12 regular font (not italicized or bold, no underlining), double spaced. For each of these statements, write a minimum of 100 words and a maximum of 300 words:

Describe in detail at least two ways, excluding coursework, that you have investigated the veterinary technology profession as a career choice.
Identify at least two intrinsic character traits that you possess. Describe how they have helped you succeed and/or overcome challenges in your life and explain how they will lead to your success in the Veterinary Technology program and the field of veterinary medicine.
The Veterinary Technology program at UC Blue Ash is a big commitment, like a job. Describe how you plan to prioritize school, work, and any other commitments you may have in order to maintain a healthy balance in your life.

Veterinary Clinic Experience

Applicants are required to complete a minimum of twenty (20) hours of veterinary-related experience, under the direction of a veterinarian or registered veterinary technician. More volunteer experience as well as paid experience is of benefit to the student. The Experience Document, signed by the student's DVM or RVT supervisor(s) must be submitted along with the electronic veterinary technology application.

Health Care Experience Form

Credit toward the selective admissions process will be awarded to those applicants with employment, volunteer or extensive observation in a human medical setting (i.e. hospital, physician's office, nursing home, hospice, outpatient clinic, rehabilitation center, etc) equating to at least 20 hours. The Health Care Experience Form can be submitted along with the electronic Radiologic Technology application as an optional component to the application. The form is due by 11:59PM on February 28, 2025.

All students who receive conditional acceptance are required to attend a mandatory program orientation in June. The date of the orientation will be communicated upon conditional acceptance. Failure to attend this mandatory on campus orientation may result in the student forfeiting their seat in the Radiologic Imaging Technology program.
